This isolation thing

  1. As I’ve a knackered heart I fall into the at risk group and if I follow government advice I should be staying at home for three months to protect myself.
The thing is my wife works in a supermarket my eldest daughter works in a pub/restaurant and my youngest daughter still has to go to school.

Something tells me this isn’t going to work

Isn't the last advise that such a household as yours Paradox should all now stay at home ... It's so confusing and contradictory

I’m in a slightly higher risk than normal due to dodgy chest but hope I will be fine. We are washing our hands as soon as we get in the house and I have antiseptic wipes in my van for whenever I’ve been out of it.

be careful @paradox xx A friend of mine knows some one who may have it. The rest of the family are living in their Motorhome just in case

  13. That’s only if someone in the house shows symptoms
Then the whole house should isolate for 14 days.

It is all getting a bit real a bit quickly.
I'm not in any way in an 'at risk' group, but my parents both fall into that catagory being 82. Dad's got a heart condition and is getting over his 2nd dose of cancer (amongst other things) and can just about potter around the house without falling over; Mum does everything (including all the driving, shopping, cooking, cleaning etc) but had a fall on Thursday and has broken her arm. So now it's down to me to do pretty much everything for them at the moment, that a one armed mother and breathless wobbly father can't manage. Except that if the over 70s have be isolated from anyone from the outside world ..... how's that gonna work??!

It’s a difficult one isn’t it. I think you’re not expected to not go and see them at all. If you’re having to take their groceries around it just isn’t realistic. But you can try to keep close physical contact to a minimum, and do the usual hand washing and sensible precautions stuff. We’re pretty much in uncharted territory aren’t we?

  16. It's nuts. I was sent home from work for showing symptoms and told not to return for 7 days...looks like 14 now. I don't have covid-19, the kids have all had a snuffly cold and as usual, I always end up with a cough...that causes a sore throat. No fever. This not testing thing is nuts - if i didnt get sick pay, i couldnt pay the bills and a test would more than likley show i was clear and fit to work. Luckily I get sick pay, god help those that don't and the stress caused...

I think in a weeks time the school will be closed, your eldest will have no shifts as pubs/restaurants forced to close and your wife put on leave as there is nothing in the supermarkets to sell. Everyone stays at home.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news....

Seriously though, apart from your wife working, the rest will probably be true so I hope you all can weather the storm. The Marmite hasn’t even hit the fan yet.

Good luck to you and anyone else in this situation, I do really hope the government does something to help the people rather than the corps.

  19. Hope so too, running out of roofs to work and self isolate on!

  20. The supermarkets have plenty in the distribution centres, it’s just people panic buying that clears the shelves as soon as they are filled.
