Thinking about putting the heat exchangers in the dishwasher....

  1. Hello

This is a hypothetical question and I not really thinking about this..... (honest) ::)

The heat exchangers are a little grubby looking and I was wondering if they found there way into the dishwasher, what would be the worst that could happen. Perhaps someone already has done this?

    Thats all..

    Thanks

  2. Hope youve got a pre-nup!

i split my type 4 engine heat exchangers apart and took them to a local engine rebuilding place, they charged me £10 to put them in their dishwasher( engine cleaner) and mine exchangers had asbestos sheet in so wouldnt have be great in the dishwasher, i had them cleaned when they were still in one piece but i could see so much crap inside them i split them and had them cleaned again, look like new now :)

  5. Do it. What have you got to lose? :)

  6. You would never catch me putting any vehicle component in the dishawasher

Just wirebrush them to lose the flakey bits then whack em in with no salt
If your worried about car parts touching plates do a empty cycle inbetween
If your mrs aint happy with it then get a dishwasher off freecycle and plumb it in in the garage

  7. I wouldn't - they can be mighty filthy. I'd give them a good scrub with degreaser outside, then a good hosing through the middle to get all the dead creatures out of the exchanger fins.

I took one off once and half a cup of used engine oil fell out. I think this is one dishwashering too far. :)

  9. Hmm - I think I better find some other way then... dont really fancy the sound of what may come out!

Elbow grease and some de-gunk stuff probably the safest bet

    Thanks all
