Thermostat

Hi all
Does this type of stat fit the original bracket?
As there doesn't seem to be much room for it to expand.

No. Wax thermostats like yours fit on a plain L-shaped bracket.

I cut the top off my bracket to give it room .

 

You’d be better off trying to find one of the alchohol-filled bellows type, even used. They are around. Shame to cut the top off your bracket.

 

I had to open the stop up in the top to get it to fit but worked fine once I did. Make sure you test it with a heat gun once in

Be aware that the flaps won’t open fully unless the thermostat is free to expand completely.
