Those pics took me so far back to when i did mine i remember all the measuring before i cut the slot for the gear shift tube In the tophat
Got a few more bits and bobs done recently, two rear top hats replaced from the chassis rail outwards and strengthener de-rusted and welded back on Top hats prepared for new inner sill Inner sill sitting in place Front jacking point and outrigger welded in Rear jacking point and outrigger Middle sill took a few adjustments and a light push to get into position All welded in and painted up It's nice having some new solid metal going back in, next up is rebuild the lower b and c pillars and start on the rear quarter
Bit more done in between another project I'm working on at the moment Built a c post but forgot to get any work in progress pics
Chopped out the remains of a few front arches! Welded in a new seatbelt mount, I got the old one out with my bare hands, can't believe this van has an mot when I bought it! Cut away the rotten bottom of the part the arch and door seal but up against Repaired and given a good coat of bonda
Been doing lots of work down on my knees lately and they are a bit tender so I did something I could do standing up, this is in preparation for repairing the inner rear wheel arch tub which has the lower inch rotting away. It took me a solid two hours but hopefully will make a good repair for the inner arch.
Nice Hadn't thought of using the replacement arch as a template for the inner tub repair, good shout ! I will be coping this method for sure
My knees are giving me jip still so done another job that could be done standing up, window repairs. It's surprising they need attention really seems as though it's a highly sought after panel van conversion Lower section and left hand corner replaced Lower right hand curve also replaced Upper repair piece joggled and tacked in place. Then I checked the newly welded areas for pinholes in the dark with a torch! Found these two which were practically invisible to the naked eye, then welded them up Then I stripped all the paint (just about all the colours of the rainbow) from the surrounding area and gave a good coat of bonda primer
Great fabrication mate. I have stolen a couple of sill and post repair pictures for reference. Keep the pictures coming.
Started on the rear quarter, return edge of the lower corner had completely rotted away Made a new section to weld in Trial fit to check profiles match Welded in, smoothed off and a touch of primer Inner tub edge replaced with the panel I made earlier in this thread (in hindsight wasn't such a great idea as I had to chop it to make it fit against the outer as tight as I wanted, I am a touch OCD though!) Floor extension piece replaced at front of arch and closed cell foam stuck in place New outer skin in place
Thanks As they say, it's easy when you know how...........which I wouldn't if it wasn't for @brothernumberone writing his very good book!
I've looked at the work you've done and I don't think you learned all that just from reading a book. The skill you display is excellent and you're building a first class van to be proud of.
