SOLD The Sick Bay. 1972 ex ambulance. Subaru powered.

Discussion in 'Late Bay Classifieds' started by Sick Boy, Aug 7, 2023.

  1. When I bought the Sick Bay in 2010 it was a fully equipped ambulance complete with stretchers, wheelchairs, sirens and flashing blue lights. Nick at Vanwurks stripped it and installed an interior to his usual very high standards.
The next chapter was a Subaru conversion which was done by Stefan at MAC VW using Fellows Speed kit and a Legacy 2 litre engine. That opened up a whole new world and journeys across the Alps and Pyrenees became routine. I even went skiing in the Alps and Glencoe thanks to the power (and heating) provided by a water cooled engine. I kept the 3 rib box but the 3rd and 4th gears were extended by Bears of Birmingham to accommodate the extra power.
We now have three grandkids and so decided to get a T6 with five seat belts and a pop top.
The Sick Bay last came out the garage about 6 months ago when I used it for a wedding and so I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that I should sell it.
It is LHD with a separate cab and a bench seat with three seat belts. Keeps you warm in winter but only access to the back is by sliding windows.
The engine and interior are in fantastic condition and the bodywork is OK. It is ready to go camping now.
Give me a call to arrange a viewing and a test drive, my number is 07770 572760. I also plan to be at Techenders next month.
The van is in Stockport, Manchester.
    The price is £11,000.

Best of luck with the sale! That's a lot of bus for the price I reckon.

  6. Thanks Rob, I was hoping to give it to my son, who loves it, but he has moved to Holland and can't get insurance and also does not have a place to keep it.

  9. Just added more pics. The roofrack and ladder are included. The fridge is a 3-way Dometic and there is a gas hob and electric taps with the sink. The sound system was fitted by Vanwurks. The heating is under the front seat as is the spare wheel.

Iconic van John, and a part of the imagery of the bay lifestyle over the last decade.

    Does the blog still exist?

Good luck with the sale and looking forward to catching up at the next TE. Neil

Even though I don't like LHD I'd be tempted if I didn't have one already. Super cool van.

  12. Thanks Neil. I stopped the blog when the host suddenly started to charge a hefty monthly fee from about £2 per month at first. Looking forward to TE.

  17. Interesting van. Can't say it's my taste being a LHD and all. :D

  18. If you are just looking for RHD it will severely limit your choice. Most LHDs are imported from USA so likely to have less rust than a UK rhd.

    That’s brave.
You’ll get loads of people now trying to convince you that LHD is somehow better!
