The reservoir in the footwell of our van

  1. Van ownership is full of surprises!

Jen and I were driving around today we heard a large amount of sloshing in the front of our van.

We removed the kick panels and discovered a lake.

A previous owner obviously didn't see the importance of keeping drainage holes unblocked and had blocked them up with putty!

God knows how long this has been a problem and how long the water has been building up. Luckily there doesn't seem to have caused any rust issues!

  2. Check your indicator seals are intact and in place, aerial grommets and wiper grommets.. And then the big one, the windscreen rubber...

    :)

  3. Also make sure the washer bottle isnt leaking, i had one hose off which filled the front panel nice and quick

  4. you should not have water there.....

Drain holes like in floor pans are sealed unless it gets flooded... ;)

  5. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Do you have the crinkly drain thing for the cold air inlet? Here's one made with a washing machine type hose...

  10. i was gona say you havnt had any old farts in their rich but i think i know the answer ???

  11. Same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago Rich I too was oblivious to it because of the kick panels, I only noticed when the carpet became saturated :( my kick panels are birch ply and when I took them off they've gone mega mouldy on the backs.

Mine hopefully was down to having a new screen fitted. I've had it resealed twice now but the weather is now better so I'm praying that its worked.
Like baggy said I'm also in the process of doing the indicators etc

    Good luck dude

  12. Dont forget the the rubber seals on the wiper shafts i have replaced ours twice in 2 years , we had THE POOL up front

  13. this is exactly why I never put the kick panels back in and the main reason front panels rot out at the bottom seam. its most likely to me the windscreen rubber, mine is, the new rubber I got from status lasted about a year tops (this was in 2008 and they may now stock better ones) I've got one of those extra beefy ones from JK to put in but right now the van is in the garage on axle stands so its the least of my worries.

3/8 drill straight through the deformation panel

  14. I had this years ago - recall the rushin water noise as I cornered, was glad when the weather was freezing and I didnt have to listen to it!

That has filled up really quickly from when I drained it or rather got a face full when I was last under Arthur. And it's coming through the windscreen rubber.

That mastic stuff was applied at the factory. You could say it seals the home and stops the wires moving and chaffing.

  16. Get some poundland black roof and gutter sealent squeezed under the lip of the window rubber if you cant afford to have a proper job done

It may be a bodge but it will save you money down the line
