Moving on to the front. It wasn't in too bad a state apart this weld all down one side. Oh how I love filling a double curved surface. The grill was pretty rusty but even I wasn't going to try and bodge that. I bought a custom grill and I needed to grind off some of the corners behind where it would sit as they stuck out too far.
Rustoleum platinum silver in a rattle can then a coat of rustoleum light reflecting paint also in a rattle can
Paint is almost always thinner on the curves and edges of raised parts of panels So unless you have runs in the paint don't sand those parts and a few cm out When you use the cutting compound on the mop it will take care of those parts
Must say, Millie... I'm hugely impressed by the work you're doing! Will the Purple Pineapple be making an appearance at Techenders later this month?
The headlights and indicators were all fine, just needed to buy some new seals. The front bumper was in a bit of a bad way, but sod it, time and money was running out so I decided to bodge it.
For some reason, I have about 3 sets of indicator seals. If you PM me your address I'll stick a pair in the post to you. Save you a few quid.
I was adamant (there's a joke I love about Adam Ant/adamant but I can't remember it. If anyone knows it please tell me.) that I'd never name my vehicles. They are 'its'. But as I was deciding what sort of valve caps to have (pineapples obviously, to go with the 70's bar theme going on inside), my mum called it The Purple Pineapple. 'Damn you mum' I said 'I didn't want to give it a name, but that sounds just like a 70's discotheque. I'm going to have to call it that now!' Huff. Couldn't find pineapple valve caps anywhere. I even had my club searching. But I found some pineapple erasers, so I'll make some caps out of them. I think it was about this time, (a week or so ago) my friends and I decided to go to Big Bang. Which was a couple of weeks away. So I booked the MOT for Monday 18th April, pulled my finger out and got cracking. Nothing like a bit of pressure to get you motivated. That pretty much brings me up to date and this is where I am now. All the bits to be put back on.
I have exactly 3 days until I need to be at the MOT station. I didn't get much done yesterday as I had stuff to do, but I can crack on today. If it stops raining. I still have 1 more coat to put on the roof, so I really need a sunny day. 1 more coat on the front bumper and cab door, and I think that's it for the painting. PLEASE let that be it for the painting. Oh wait, I want to do the top dash. But that will be easier than the outside. I also want to Waxoyl inside the bumpers and inside the front indicator holes as far as I can reach today. Hand painted all these fiddly bits. I'll just have a little nap and then I'll get started.
It didn't stop raining today so I feel like I didn't get much done. Put the final coat on the front bumper. Waxoyled inside both bumpers. Drilled screw holes in number plates. Put petrol flap on. Painted the rear bumper brackets that my mate made me instead of putting the rotten trays back on. And done a bit more painting on the inside. I just tried to put the headlights back together with the new seals that arrived from Cool Air today. I don't know what they sent me but they sure ain't the right ones. So it looks like I won't have them before the MOT. On the plus side I'm now about to do the last coat on the driver side door and here's a happy picture of my cat yesterday.
You're a right lovely one you are. I promise to make you a special cherry bakewell cocktail, next time I see you.
