  1. Properly torque both CV joints before congratulatimg yourself on a record CV boot replacement, and want to go further than 2500 miles before a loud clatter bang noise in Leominster. Mrs P found a motor factors around the corner, went up to the counter and said "Help! Damsel in distress, please save me from the horrible, swearing, aggrivated, dipstick underneath the van." Ah she knows me so well. 4 new bolts,5 mm too short and a 200 hundred mile tip toe back home.
Yes I'm standing in the corner now.

  5. Did... but I'd only shinched it up, then, as is default, completely forgot about torqueing it up. It's the only explanation I can think of for the thing to drop off. No worries, get some proper bolts next weekend and the joint cleaned and re greased.

  6. A driveshaft flailing about under the van would be quite exciting ...

  8. Ahhhhhh brings back memories!!!!! It happened to me many moons ago in August bank holiday traffic going into Matlock on an early date with my now wife (she must have felt sorry for me) i don't remember the incident being much fun at the time! It was a previous van and a more naive me i recall hand tightening the bolts ( no tools on board apart from the driver) and limping slowly into Matlock where i found a tool shop open to buy some allen keys to tighten hem 'properly'. I have a much ore 'reliable' van now and a much better toolkit and a little less naivety! :D

  10. Only for a second or 2. Was just chugging up hill to some traffic lights. Wheel one came off and I was smart on the clutch. Luckily the one that came off was allen headed bolts, the other 3 those splined ones, not torx. The "torx" bit was sat at home in the big tool box.
