Just popped down to one of the lettings to fix the overflowing immersion heater and found the balllcock had perished. I shot off down to B n Q for a replacement and when I got back found it had a smaller thread than the old one. Now I can't find a replacement ball. To replacement the whole mechanism will be a right pita and lots of plasterboard removal. Anyone have any suggestions pr know where I can get a ball with a larger hole. I just looked on plumb centres site and they don't seem to do them!

  16. I think you may be a bit confused here old chap . firstly immersion heaters don't have ballcocks and secondly they are called float valves nowadays .Ballcocks are to sexist along with manholes and urinals .The floats do come in different thread sizes depending on who made it ,pop down to plumb base and tell em i sent you . You may get away with changing the arm by removing the split pin ,but make sure you keep the piston the right way up and the the arm is the same shape . or you could split the valve at the large nut inside the tank ,so long as you have BS new and old . or you may get lucky and get a float to fit . But to be honest just change the whole thing and be done with it
