The Cost Of new Bodywork

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by keithandtrudystype2, Feb 26, 2013.

  1. Interested to know what the going rate would be for a body shop to replace the rear corners, battery trays, repairs to the wheel arches, paint the engine bay and replace the drivers side wheel arch plus some patching up. we will be picking our van up this weekend and am interested in if the costs are expensive or reasonable. The body shop is a well equipped shop with proper booths etc and it looks like a good job...

Didn't you get a quote first?

  3. very rough quote, really an estimate, fairplay, there has been a lot of unforeseen stuff once started.

  4. I'd take the plastic with you!! You may need it!!!

You need to be much more specific about what was done and what was painted, but it's going to be several thousand £'s.

    I'd just deleted 2.5k before I posted!

  10. Did they paint the whole bus after that work?

  11. What was your rough quote then????

And which arches? A front one's £250, a rear £40 and they're different to fit - all makes a diference.

  13. It was front arch, rear corners times 2, battery trays, valance in and outer, also new engine door,

Just re-read and realised the work has started, and the price has escalated, these buses are very rarely a quick tartup, I'm quite tempted to retract my 2.5k price above, and go for £4k. You really need to detail what has been done though, as I was assuming rear arches for some reason, the fronts are a different ballgame completely.

Getting some pics up, would really help us all have a good look though :)

*Edit - see you've just detailed the bits done.

  15. about right Kruger! the rear arches were repaired, new panels were rear corners x 2, battery trays x 2, new front wheel arch X 1, plus some patching, as you say, it was always going to escalate, will take pics when I get it back, suppose am in negative equity now...

rear corners and battery trays £300 a side

    paint engine bay £300

Those of us in negative equity are generally found in the 'Restorations' board!

  18. For the corners, valance, paint , trays etc. £2300, possibly and extra 250 for engine out and in and 450 for the arch £3k all in!

  19. My early just had:
Small patches to NS rear quarter
Patches to bottom of front arches behind the steps both sides,
    Doors re built
    New lifters both sides
New felt channels and gubbins etc
New plastic sheets (behind the door cards)
    Re built rear quarter lights
    Heater cables
    Cab mats below the seats,
    Fitted new rubbers all around
Van stripped, prepped and full coat of L90D, bumpers/irons powder coated and sprayed, flatted and polished.
    Wax injected and shultzed..

I did supply all the rubbers and a few bits and bobs...

Picking it up this week, total expected < £3K

No major welding or body prep needed and this is where the time is spent so I'd say north of £4K

  20. Jesus! I'm in the wrong job! really?? 300 per side for battery trays? sorry for the over use of question marks but I'm shocked at the prices people pay. Glad i have my own welder and tools now lol!
