Loved it, absolutely loved it. That was exactly my cup of tea even though I missed it at the beginning. I joined up at where the lad and the mole were trying not to be scared and the fox had joined them then the mole sorted out the fox, so what happened at the beginning then? How was he homeless? How did he meet the mole ? Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,Hope it’s on again
Alex Becky read this book when she was in the priory Glasgow she was in tears this morning when she watched it, very moving for us both
Only got told last night that it was on. Bought the book in for the college library only a couple of weeks ago - catalogued it into our section on mental health.
I think we may well be on the same page Norris . I thought it was beautifully drawn, but that’s about it…… The Telegraph review was good …” Do you know the name of the UK’s biggest-selling adult hardback since records began? It is The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy, a book of timeless wisdom/cloying whimsy (delete according to taste) written in a style that will help you make it through the day/vomit up your breakfast.“ Cloying whimsy it is then
I think this is a very individual thing personally I thought it was a bit pants but it helped my wife through a living hell when she was taken to Glasgow where she was put in a room watched over for 24 hrs a day for 18 weeks the only thing she was allowed was 1 book which was this one so I can see why she was so emotional and that’s why I was a bit choked ( I had something in my eye )
Bless you Bazza! It is surprising how many ‘things’ get in your eye when you’re trying not to blub like a goodun!!
Personally. I thought the whole point of the story was to give some sort of comfort to parents whose children had disappeared. Especially the bit near the end, where the little boys house was in sight, but he never returned,as he was safe with his new friends. At the start, the boy seemed lost, and didn’t know where he was. Just thought the whole thing was a metaphor. I guess some people could see that, and some couldn’t…
Oh, it was a metaphor was it? I thought it was about an actual boy who meets an actual talking mole, an actual talking fox, an actual talking horse and spends the day and night with these talking animals, in the snow in unsuitable clothing.
It reminded me of the old joke where a horse walks into a bar and orders a pint. The landlord says 'F*ck me, a talking horse!'
