  1. Took the van out for a run today to see if all was well and only got two miles before spluttering to a halt , fuel pump was really noisy ( pumps is 12 volt Hardi ) so i am goiny to remove pipe and filter after pump to see whats coming through , meanwhile i have spoke to the garage that fitted the pump last year ( 30th March ) they are going to see if they can get a replacement , i would have to fit it as i cant get to the garage with the van :theforce:

have you had the petrol tank flushed/cleaned; could it be dirt debris clogging the pump up

  4. I have drained some fuel out of the tank and it looks like its got water in the fuel along with some bits , there doesnt seem to be enough fuel coming out of the tank , so it looks like the tanks has to come out . im going to look in the top tomorrow and see if there is any signs of crud , i reckon the pump was noisy due to not having enough fuel in it . I have two samples of fuel in clear bottles and something has settled in the bottom , its got the lava lamp look about it o_O

  5. Keep draining until you got one liquid coming out ;)

I would take it out and flush it, renew all of the filters, pipes and see what the outlet tube on the tank is like, that may have signs of corrosion too..its worth looking into!

  8. going to drain the tank in the morning and i have borrowed a suction pump from our local vw garage , where the mechanic told me that due to water having a lower viscosity than petrol it would block the paper elements in filters . ( this would account for the noise the pump was making ) also he has given me pump ( fuelflow EFP1 made in New Zealand ! )

Good luck Nigel , sounds a simple enough fix - if you need a hand with the piping etc you should call a plumber on chester 0 0 0 oH :)

  10. yea i called him last week he wanted £10.00 just to come and drink tea

  14. oh yes i have access ive been peering in till i went boss eyed tried all sorts of mirrors on bits of pipe and torches , etc , im picking up the endoscope in the morning from the hire shop . i told HSS that i could get one from Brandon for £20 and hss knocked £30 of the hire price just like that

  15. This sample when left over night in a lemonade bottle , the water turned red[IMG]

  16. Bits of rust picked from tank after draining The 5 p was only to give scale[IMG]

  17. The tools for the job including endoscope which was hired , the magnetic pick up was £3 in tesco , only the end was magnetic which helped going in and out of the tank , i used a modified head torch for lighting in the tank ( took of the strap , drilled a hole and fastend a cable tie through the hole and then tied wire to it so it didnt fall in to the tank )[IMG]
