Do you "scruff" them to pick them up? Wish I'd known about that. Grab him by the neck, and he just dangles there like an floppy thing.
That's an instinct shared by cats and dogs I believe. It's so the parent can move their young easier if they need to relocate Their nest for some reason.

s/he certainly cuts a dash....my grandad had a ferret for rabbiting...it was the meanest varmint on the planet...would throw itself at the bars of the cage when you went past....never bit my grandad though (so he reckoned)
