Testing a Webasto Heater

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by davek, Mar 2, 2015.

  1. I've got a Webasto Airtop 2000 12v diesel heater with timer and I want to test it before I sell it.

Can anyone do this or point me in the direction of someone who can. I'm located near Bolton but am happy to travel a few miles up, down or across

Any help would be much appreciated - I can be contacted via here of tlb(at) davidkenyon co uk

    Thanks

  2. How much would you be selling for if it works? Thanks

  3. I'm not sure yet Bruce.
It depends what works and if it needs any servicing or parts.

It will need the air intake hose connected and the exhaust hose connected at least, as well as the fuel feed to the fuel pump and the control switch connected.

Also you will need a well charged car battery, the one on my boat takes about 15 amps to start.

Expect several failed start cycles before it gets going even if it is working properly as it takes ages to fill up the fuel hose if it is empty.
The pump only shifts exactly the amount of fuel that it wants to burn. Which is under 1ml per second.

    And they are very noisy.

But they dont suffer stupid shutdowns that need full resets like modern Eberspachers.

  5. I'm not touching it!!

I can't/don't do things like that.

I put washer fluid in one end of the camper and fuel in the other. That's it!

  6. Can anyone help?

You should be able to find somebody who installs these in vans / mobile homes or maybe a boatyard dealing with canal boats may be able to look at it near Bolton.

  8. Hi Mike, I did but understandably they don't want to just test it (as you would at home) and accept the responsibility of having said its ok - liability and all that.
Been quoted £300-ish to fit it after it's been checked - will return it without charge if it's knackered though.

I've read a few threads here and there where people connect them up as you said earlier - but I'm not confident enough to try it.

Just going to have to hope someone local-ish spots this ;-)

Appreciate you taking the time to try and help

  9. are you wanting to fit it or sell it?

  10. I've just spoke the to guy I got it off and he's assured me it works as he saw it working when he bought it and helped strip it out - he's been 100% honest about everything else on the camper I bought off him.
It wasn't fitted in the camper and it came as parts with it - if it didn't work or he didn't know if it did or not there's was no point him lying about it.

I don't really know what it's worth if I did sell it - I was told it's about £900 new with the 7 day timer
