Although i have purchased a new starter i want to test my existing one whilst on the van to exclude the switch/solenoid from the equation so i can attempt to recondition it.
It basically sticks - either hot or cold makes no odds (can be sat for weeks and i have to tap it with hammer)
I'd like to "bypass" the ignition switch and just fire it up from underneath (in stuck mode) to verify it's deffo the solenoid. Can anyone give me a method of doing this please.

  2. Ensure it's not in gear, then this:

I use a big screwdriver to short it out

I use a short fat screwdriver so the long end doesnt short somewhere else. Or stick a spade terminal on a bit of wire place on the spade terminal on the starter.. or on mine a spare terminal on the starter.. and thread that through the engine seal to near the battery. Then I can turn the starter over again and again bit only crawl under there twice once to fit the wire once to remove it..

  6. Put a wire to the battery from the spade...[safer ,especially autos]

  7. or to save you grubbing around on the floor, hard wire it and put it on a momentary switch in the engine bay, so you can remote start it whenever

  8. unless you leave it in "R"..:D
