Test of new accuspark module.

  1. I fitted new points and did timing dwell etc.
Went for a drive and noted speed up this long hill in 4th.
Went home fitted accufire and set timing.
Test drove up the same hill and got 5km/h more!
All round the module makes the motor accelarate smoother and i need less gas on the flats in 4th.
Also seems that its got better midrange power.
The motor also idles very smoothly and the motor has almost no vibrations or shaking at idle.
My point of view is that the accufire is better than points.
I will carry points and condenser in the van anyway as its easy to revert back if the module breaks down.
I also fitted accufire plug leads, nice fit, nice grommets that seal over the tinwear.
I used an old grommet to fit over the oil pressure sensor.
Im a firm believer that all unused holes in the tinware should be blocked off.
Keep the hot side and cold side separated as the motor was designed to operate.

i found mine starts much better with the new electronic distributor in it too.

  3. It will improve things, although don't expect any more power or better fuel consumption. A mod well worth doing.

If the change is as dramatic as you say, I'd suggest your points and timing were in a right old state before!

  4. Nope, as stated my points were new and dwell and timing set.
    Timing set at 8 degrees

  5. Also 5 kmh is very estimated,my speedo jumps a bit! But i did notice a difference in smoothness.

  6. At best, an electronic ignition will give your camper the performance it should get with properly set-up points. The big advantage is that once installed, the timing should remain constant and not "wander" like points seem to do

  7. Indeed. You'll also get better HT at the plugs, as the coil current is switched more quickly and cleanly.

  8. Could i then open the gaps up a bit on the plugs to give it more spark?

  9. Your spark will be cleaner as @snotty says, which will help with accuracy at the plug but the Voltage is the same. To use a bigger gap, you need more Volts at the plug to overcome the resistance of the air - fuel mixture so the spark can jump the gap.

  10. You will get more volts at the plugs (as Mr Faraday tells us), but not really worth opening the plugs up.

  11. i agree with the accuspark although when i refitted the engine i wired it wrong and have either blown the module or my coil or both :( Is there an easy way ot test the accuspark is ok?

    Wrong way, ignition on, fried.

  13. ^this. The module's dead. You'd have to try hard to damage the coil.

On a more positive note, you can now get a complete powerspark electronic SVDA distributor on ebay for just £44.95 delivered.

  15. yep thats the one i brought, good deal. Sounds like a new module for me then :( but not a new coil...yippeee

  16. Coil is very likely ok. Short of hitting it with a hammer, you can't wreck them.

  19. I bought the accuspark bundle which came with dizzy, plugs, leads, coil and the electronic ignition unit.
Been in a year now and very pleased with it and a good price too!
Starts great and seems to run better than when the points were in there. ( unless I just think it does)
