Took the tank out today. When full, gauge only read 3/4(at best). How can I test it out of the tank etc?
It's more likely to be the voltage stabiliser in my experience. A good candidate for Snotty's gadget if it's not just a poor connection. There is one connection behind the firewall which is worth having a look at. Hides around the filler end of the tank. The wire takes an interesting route from the loom near the starter, out into the wheel tub the back into the void where the filler hose lives. It would be sealed with VW version of bluetac when new, but nobody replaces it when they clean up/paint/whatever and the connector and wire just the other side can be corroded.
