Tdi conversion - self "machining" of gearbox

  1. Hello all..
    As alot of you have seen in other forums etc some have used a wood router and a frame to hold the gearbox to remove the 15mm required to make space for the adaptor plate.

    I had a go on a test piece of aircraft grade Ali. Using a 10mm carbide tipped bit. Happy to say it went through like cheese...
    See pic.. 2 passes not slow nor too fast.

    Once I can get my grubby mitts on some wood to make up the frame it's game on.. [​IMG]

    Nice clean cut!
    Router as hand held milling machine, I've never found an excuse to try it. :(
     
  3. Yes dude was freehand also. Just a quick pass to see how the bit and router speed felt
