Tax exemption question

  1. Here's one for you...

    Just bought a 1973 van (no pics yet, sorry). The tax disc runs out today, and it goes tax free tomorrow. To get the nil tax disc you have to send all the registration/MOT/insurance stuff off to the DVLA (unhelpful). So can I drive it in the meantime?

  2. No as you don't have valid road licence, it still has to be taxed it's just that you won't need to pay for it from now in

  3. As above ^^^^
    Send off the log book to register as historic - any good post office will sort it out for you, might have to tax it for 6 months and claim the money back if you`re in a hurry ...

    :hattip:

  4. How irritating.

    Still... free tax :beer:

    I thought I'd read (on here) that you can do it in Post Offices from tomorrow?
    @baybirmingham will probably know.

  6. Download a V10 form from the DVLA website and complete it, filling in the new taxation class as HISTORIC. Also, fill in the relevant section of your V5C form to change the taxation class to HISTORIC. Take both of them to the Post Office tomorrow. If they know what they're doing, they will process your van as HISTORIC and give you a 12 month free tax disc. They will take your V5C and send it off to the DVLA, and you will get a new one back from DVLA in a few weeks with the new taxation class on it.

    I'm thinking of asking for this to be made a sticky.
