Hi Hopefully lots of Late bay owners can enjoy being tax free in the future. Has any one with a late bay re registered the bus with DVLA to make there late bus tax free, my '74 Westy has a build date of 12/73 so I'm hoping I can get my bus changed over, any one experience of this??? I've been told to get a birth certificate from Volkswagen UK, any one had to do this? The bus was imported from California so was not registered from new in the UK USA spec buses have a factory build date sticker in the door shut with build date stamped into it. Will DVLA accept this as proof? Thanks in advance
you can decode the m-plate which will give you a planned production date, this is near enough always + or - correct by a day, not sure if the dvla need a birth sertificate, your chassis number will have the year of manufacture in it http://www.volksworld.com/tech-guid...ion/volkswagen-type-2-bus-chassis-numbers/#70 the 3rd digit saying 3 proves it's a 73 so why they need a birth certificate is beyond me?
The year in the M plate will signify model year, so '73 will be anywhere from August 1972 to July 1973.
yes but it lists "planned production date" regardless of that, if free tax is now pre 74 anything with a 3 in the chassis number is surely tax free.
god i hate the new imageshack! just noticed my planned production date section is empty, but should say march 6 1978. anyway you get the idea, my 3rd number is 8, if yours is 3 there really should be no argument as it's obviously pre 74
Build date 12/73 but chassis number is 234 so indicate its a '74 model???? I agree with Rickyroo why can't DVLA take the proof you give them as gospel ( ie chassis number) Never decode M plate before, how lazy
