Tappets/Rocker Flaking

Just went out and fitted my new adjusters and removed the old screws.

I installed a set of 8 on 27 August 2013. These came from VW Heritage. Mileage 71210.

This year I bought 4 replacement adjuster screws from VWH and fitted them on 7th September 2014. Mileage 81560.

These replaced screws which had basically burred up until the edges were proud by 0.5mm or so.

I took them all out just now 7 November 2014. Mileage 83360.

The old screws looked like the tips were beginning to come apart.
The new VWH screws showed some signs of wear - two had lost the surface black but still had a domed surface. Two of them had slight pitting on the surface as well.

The old and new VWH screws are definitely different - the new ones are a sort of deep dark brown, the tips are fairly flat while the old ones were black finished, and I think had a more rounded tip.
