tappet gap for 1776

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by grub, May 6, 2015.

  1. Hi all,

Can anyone suggest what the tappet gap should be on my 1776 - I set my 1600 that's in at the mo at 6 thou (.15mm) but not sure if the 1776 I am about to install should be set any different.

here's the spec in case that makes any difference (if it's different for inlet & exhaust, how can I tell which is which (I am an engine numpty - didn't build the 1776!)..

    1776 cc
Full flowed case with remote filter and bracket
    Counter weight crank
    Kennedy stage 1 clutch
    Lightened flywheel, 8 dowled
Engle 120 cam, twin thrust bearing
    Std matched con rods
    Ballanced bottom end
    Chrome moly pushrods
High ratio rockers with swivel feet
    Bolt up rocker bars
040 Twin port heads, 3 angle valve seats and mildly ported
    Tinware
Doghouse 36hp fanshroud ( no heater outlets)
    Alternator
Sdva distributor ( brand spanking new)
    Remote oil breather box
    Dell 40 carbs

    thanks

Because of your pushrods you can set the gaps to a loose zero. The gap will increase slightly as it warms up.

  3. Excuse my ignorance Zed but what's a loose zero?

    No gap but only just.

  5. Cheers Zed.

  6. Do all 1776 have automatic valve clearance as I have a 2Lit & it's manual adjustment?

  7. Adjustment not clearance. ..

It's the pushrods, nothing to do with the rest of the engine. And it's not automatic! It's just a different setting to reflect the comparative lack of expansion of the pushrods.
