Ive decided that I will be selling this van to help fund another project. I have this and another van plus a couple of other projects and its all just a wee bit to much managing them all, so decided that two vans is a bit overkill and one has to go.

What I am offering here is the van in the restoration section "the other woman"

    http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/the-other-woman.40265/

This is a late late bay ( will check the V5 for registration date) and is a very solid old girl.

I bought it as a second bus as the first one has become a wee bit modified and probably not best suited for everyday camping, I thought this one would just be a quick weld up and use it job, but as I got into it it was apparent that it was actually a really solid example of a UK RHD camper which would benefit from a more detailed restoration or a good slid base for the home restorer to do there thing without the worry of welding

I have replaced the panel below the windscreen, relaced the lower rear corners, replaced the rear cross member and rear valance, welded up a few holes that were cut into the load area by the previous owner and replaced the passenger door step and a couple of small areas on the rear inner wheel tubs .

That was pretty much all of the welding the van required, nothing drastic or significant and the only welding the van has ever had, the previous owner had kept it well waxoiled.

The van did have a camping interior but the units had been clad with ply over the original and weighed a ton and looked crap so there now in the corner of the garage, the good thing is you can now see how solid previously hidden parts of the van realy are.

I have noticed that the door tops at the glass seal are a wee bit tired but I am planning to carry out those repairs.

The good thing with this van is its solid and you can see that for yourself as there is no paint on the lower body panels just a little redoxide primer

The van retains its original factory wheel arches front and rear original body sills, floors, doors and front panel ( with the exception of the repair below the windscreen and hatch in rear load area )

Mechanically everything looks solid with no major corrosion on the front beam or rear spring tube.

I have the original gearbox that come with the bus or a box from another bus as an option.

The original 1600 twin port is well gone but I have a good core to rebuild a new engine for reliable cruising.

All hard to find engine tins are present.

The new or nearly new bits I have to go with the project but not fitted are as follows :

Brake discs, brake pads, master cylinder, rear drums, rear wheel cylinders, brake shoes, brake springs, front shox rear shox, clutch kit, 5 new load rated tyres , front and rear wheel bearings, drive shaft boots ( I think I also have new CVs but will confirm otherwise provide them)

As for trim I have the following new parts,

Screen rubber, rear screen rubber, all side glass seals, door glass seals, fixed quarter window seals, door to body seals, door step covers, cab carpet set, door cards, headlights, and probably other parts.

It also comes with some very smart and very comfy PT cruiser half leather seats in grey in as new condition. :) which sit you nice and low.

Thats about it really, its not a completed van, its a project, but its a solid van thats had the minimum amount of welding in its life and is solid, its not a rust bus buried in filler and shiny paint.

You can fit the new bits and finish the body and camper interior to suit yourself, knowing that what you have is sound, will last for years ... and fall well within a reasonable budget probably a lot less than buying a bodged up van thats on the road..

It will need money spent on it to make it nice and cosy, but what you save time and cash wise on not having to do a massive body and structural restoration will pay dividends.

I dont think my asking price of £6550 is unrealistic infact its my break even price, I will consider a near offer but cant do any trades or part ex. Im not looking for a profit, just the release of some funds to allow me to progress my other projects .

Van is located in Scotland, thanks for looking .

HUP ! Dont be scared off by the price, or how the van looks in the pics. It might be a little more expensive than your average project, thats because its in better condition than your average project. :) Nothing hidden under filler paint or under seal. A host of the parts youll need for the completion of the project are included in the price ( aprox £1000 for seals and trim parts, PLUS brake parts, clutch, new headlamps, and odds and ends) all the glass is good and get this.... no major welding as very little was required and anything that was suspect has been done. All wheels arches and the bulk of the external panels are original VW factory... this is a good solid RHD UK registered van ... needs work but mainly service stuff like brakes etc. There is no engine fitted but I can supply a good rebuildable core or if your interested in a non aircooled ride a Subaru conversion at extra cost ..... Original camper units are available for paterns and original 3/4 rock and roll bed included.
The big hole in the rear quarter and lower corner plus battery tray are now all repaired :)

OK folks, is it to expensive? Is it the location? is it the van ?

Ive done a wee bit more of the work required viz cosmetic welding and replacing the inspection hatch.. The van is otherwise a solid proposition and its RHD I believe there is huge potential in this van but I have to many other things on the go to give it any attention.

Ive decided to lower the price but this is the rock bottom price, no offers, remember it comes with a lot of spares and a good core for building a solid twin port engine including all the required engine tins.

new price is £5500... Its not advertised anywhere else ( well not that I remember at least )...

Its still in Scotland, its not the end of the world..:)

    cheers for now

I have one in a similar state - it has a tiny market because of the lack of paint.
And I think people looking for a project would rather spend their money more gradually starting with a smaller outlay even if it means more cost in the long run.

  5. Not to knock the price, but I paid 1500 quid more and got a pretty solid runner that was presentable and ready to camp. I think this falls in that difficult pricerange where its a bit dear for a project and not quite far enough along to be a cheap useable bus. Tricky one, but best of luck with it anyway :)

And I paid £1500 less and got a LHD runner that needed cargo floor replacing and sliding door lower repair, but no painting. It had no interior though. LHD is stiff competition in this price range.

No worries, its a massively weird market, a solid original van with 95 % of its original factory panels rock solid original wheel arches and floors any welding needed done has been done and to a high standard, new brake parts including discs , drums and master cylinder plus a grands worth of glass seals, cab carpet, door cards, plus other parts...and 5 new tyres.... and NO FILLER.. I dont think you could find that for £4k .... 3 weeks hard graft and its a £12k van.. It probably better to keep it and go for the big price ticket ... Its not as though there going down in price..... ( just unfortunate I dont have a solid 3 weeks to work on the van), I retire next year though and will have plenty time then.... I think Ive just made up my mind.. ;)
