T2 head lights

  1. Failed the MOT on headlights.
    No beam pattern.

It's got halagen bulbs, I removed the egg cup build shields and fitted brighter led side lights.

    Reflectors are shinny.

Should I refit the egg cup shields, otherwise I ditch them and get a eBay set.

Yes, you need the shields as it uses the light bounced off the bowl and the prisms made in the glass handling mostly parallel rays of light to produce the pattern.
The headlamp is designed to used the shields, it needs the shield, otherwise you cannot get a dipped beam.

If it is not bright enough, then the Classic Car LEDs replacements seem to be a good fit, theres room in the headlamp bowls for the LEDs and their power supplies, and they are legal and a good deal brighter (with the shields )..

Much appreciated. Just got to find where I put them now.

'How far into the future' - far enough to brake.

At about 60mph (25 metres/second) and say 10 seconds to stop.. thats a total of about 125 metres or about five times further than you can see with stock headlamps. You will hit that unlit dragon sleeping in the road ahead.
