Check the wire from the coil to the distributor where it runs through the fan housing, mine melted when I ran it through that hole!
Hi Mike. Thank you, and Yes, new carbs fitted just before Christmas. There’s been no increase in oil level (Checked that yesterday on earlier advice). Generally a bit greedy with fuel but not massively I don’t think for a big girl her age! It just seems strange that it happened suddenly when starting and going from warm. I’m sure I’ll get to the bottom of it!
Do you have a multimeter handy? I would check the neg coil to ground (chassis) resistance reading and see what it is.
Have the carbs been set up correctly? I assume they have been refurbed but unfortunately it's not just a case of throwing them back on and firing up. The stock twin solexes are perfectly fine when set up right but it's quite an involved procedure that has to be done in the correct order and they don't take at all kindly to random fiddling I'm afraid.
This, this and this again. You run points don't you @Lasty ? Don't adjust the carbs, they should be the last thing to touch and only when you know for sure your valve gaps, points gap and timing are correctly set, the plugs are correct type and gapped correctly (they all come with too large a gap in the box), HT leads clicked onto the plugs. Then consider that it was running well before and that carbs don't un-adjust themselves... before going over all the above again. While you're checking all that also look for air leaks as above. Air leaks/weak spark but I'd go for weak spark as an air leak big enough to loose power as you describe would be difficult to start and probably wouldn't idle. Also not petrol shortage as you can rev it and slip the clutch.
And had it been running fine before you changed them in December and how much has it run since you put the new carbs on....
been running her daily since new carbs were put in. Fridays probs came on suddenly after I warm restarted her
