T2 1974: Torque Settings for the CV joints? (misplaced the manual!!!)

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Jude 33, Apr 29, 2019.

  1. Hi,

Does anybody have the torque settings for the CV joints?
We have misplaced the manual.... very annoying

Great having a lost manual when you have drained the gearbox....
Think the gearbox oil should be 80W90...
And about 3 litres to refill....

Any information would be really helpful.....

    Thanks Jude & John

Castrol Syntrans Transaxle 75w-90 is better than a generic 80w-90. You need about 3.5 litres for a refill – it depends on how much is left in the box when you drain it.

Anybody know torque settings for the rear shocks - top bolt & lower bolt & nut?

[Been having a nightmare replacing seals on the gearbox - thought it was a 1974 .... turned out to be earlier 002 - 3 rib box..... were told it was a 1968..... ordered the 68 seals - they were the wrong size.... also told to get special washers.... tried to fit with special washers..... only to find out this box had a spacer behind the flange!!!! massive headache - finally all sorted]

  9. They where made using metric units use them, otherwise mistakes are made.
45 Nm for the CV joint bolts.
