Still Here and back on it, big box of bits arrived today from Schofields and will be getting fitted shortly. Pics of work carried out to follow in the coming days. It should be finished by now i know especially looking at the last time I updated this thread, shameful, but life has tended to get in the way.
That box looks just like mine did from schofields I remember how excited I was, good look mate! As for the corners they fit ok but need a fair bit of beating to get flat, but that's half the fun!
I'm off work for the coming week so..................fingers crossed I'll get a bit done. The rear corners look ok, but will need a bit of work I recon same as the engine side panel a bit ripply, if that's a word. The van has had some of these panels fitted before but just not very well! I also got repair panels for the rear windows (panel van) so should save me a bit of work in that area.
Little bit of progress. Finally got the engine out ready for the engine bay repairs, I reckoned it would be easier. Engine out Fuel tank out Bit of a problem though Anyone had this problem. I was trying to get the fuel pipe off the outlet and it felt like its was coming, but then snap, must of been a bit corroded. All the fuel pipes will be getting changed before it all goes back as they aren't in a very good condition. Now that lot is out of the way I can get on with the metal work.
Time for a short update. I'm making progress, but its slow going. Had a few spare hours today before work tonight so got this started. Both window surrounds are a bit rotten like below so marked up for cutting. Rot cut out. New panel from Schofields.........erm expertly welded in Started cleaning up, but ran out of time. Back again soon!!
Started the other side today, but ran out of gas. Bummer. Also need your opinion I'm finding it really difficult to grind the weld flat in the recess above the sliding channel, should seam seal it and leave it or preserve and grind it flat, only asking cos it won't be seen once the side cover is on?
Its up to you For hard to reach places like that i use an electric finger file http://www.axminster.co.uk/black-decker-ka900e-powerfile?gclid=CJzC57XOlL8CFcbJtAodD00Aug
As @paradox says upto you but would look better finished of . I have an air powered finger sander the same but I would not be with out it very handy bit of kit .
Thanks for the advice guys, I really wanted it finished off flat and I suppose I was looking for an excuse not to do it, but a finger file is now on my list of tools I need/want.
Quick update, remember the hole in the fuel tank? Well its now fixed. New 8mm brass fitting silver soldered in. Its now been cleaned and pressure tested at mains water pressure which is good enough for me and no leaks!
Still here, Still at it! Took your advice and finished the welds off nice and smooth, even put a bit of fine filler over the top for good measure. The new toy I used to do the job with, thanks for the recommend Para. Now for some more rusty bits, I'll be back on this tomorrow Back again sooner I hope.
