Agree - but would point out that those instances are very very well managed - i.e. not the re-wilding that people portray where nature just gets on with it as we have in Wales, those are instances where habitats are carefully crafted to suit certain circumstances e.g. the introduction of beavers in wetlands. Because we don't have any of the historic large breeds such as Ox, Deer and Bears - the forest floor literally is awash with bramble and invasive species. I'm a fan of the principle, I'm not a fan of the lazy arsed, half thought out methods they seem to apply.
The Jesuits?!?! I knew they’d be involved somewhere. Never mind the illuminati, it’s the Jesuits you have to keep an eye on!
I see they've charged 2 men with the chopping down of the tree. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/apr/30/two-men-charged-over-felling-of-sycamore-gap-tree
Maybe they could charge the government for the destruction of ancient woodlands for the construction (or not) of HS2
You don't need a planting scheme for re wilding . Just leave alone and it will all happen on its own , self setters will appear everywhere, briar will appear everywhere but eventually die off when shrouded by light as the trees get bigger . Its a long process turning pasture land into forest . I did it with piece of land about 40 years ago ,it is now fully packed bit of woodland full off Oaks, Silver Birch ,Hazel , Hawthorn now May trees , Horse Chestnut ,and wild Cherry ......and Sycamore . Its all full of Badgers and rabbits and foxes . You know when the foxes are around when you don't see any rabbits . It probably does help if there are trees nearby to to help with wind seed spread, birds and other animals particularly the hated squirrel .
Briar is messy but it is a good man deterrent . Its mans formality in landscaping and organized planting schemes that is out of true to nature
The arrests even made it to the front of the Swiss news, glad to see they still focus on the bigger stories of the week.
I always wondered if it was a protest against HS2 or the cutting down of rain forests. It just seemed an odd thing to do, but would have made sense of a senseless act if it was a protest action. It certainly wouldn’t have justified it but the reasoning may have come to light!
