Why do some artics have one pair of wheels on the tractor jacked up on the rotatey-rear-axle thing? Save the tyres if you haven't got a full load on?
On newer trucks the rear axle lowers or raises depending on weight to save on tyre wear. Older trucks had a manual switch
Yep, It's to do with axle/gross weight limits, not all units have a lift axle though. You'll see a lot of trailers have a lift axle too Here's my jalopy
