I changed my sump cover on my 72 1600cc engine and found that one of the studs was so short I could only just get a normal nut on it but not with a washer on any suggestions / ideas appreciated cheers
Double nut and unwind the stud a bit.. unless it's the one holding the oil pickup down in which case you cant without access to the top (split the case...) where there is a nut holding the pickup down.. Get acorn nuts with integral seals.. problem is that these are hard to find .. Zago in the USA seem to make them but mostly imperial size.. Or hex nuts with thread seals.. https://www.accu.co.uk/metric-sealing-hexagon-nuts/626104-HPNFOR-M6-10-A2
Good morning unfortunately it is the one holding the oil pick up I’ll try and source acorn nuts with seal Cheers
You may be able to make a spanner that can reach the nut on top .. something like one of those flat cycle spanners but with the 10mm jaws left and the rest cut away ..a flat spanner with a bit over 90 degree bend in it .. The nuts with sealing O ring built in will squish the ring into the thread as you tighten them, so dont have to be acorn. Also try filing the base off the acorn nuts you have .. the thread seems to start quite far in to the cap..
