Stud missing off block - leaking oil - HELP

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by JohnSly, May 14, 2018.

  1. stud pic.jpg I am missing this stud from my block and i m leaking oil! Doesn t seem to be any thread there for replacement stud, would a helicoil do the trick ? although a tricky place to get to with engine bar and exhaust in the way. Or there something i m missing ? (apart from the stud) !

  2. The stud is in the other half of the engine case and comes though when you put the two halves together and then it has a washer and nut on it if there is no thread at all I suspect that it has all come out. That could be just a case of fitting a new stud and nut or if the thread has gone I doubt you will do it without stripping the engine. I’d start with a long bolt to see if it will wind in and take it from there you could always just remove the engine bar whilst you do the repair and then replace after.

  3. Thanks for the reply Ian, i did a bit of googling and found a picture of the stud, then proceeded to turn the shed upside down looking for it ! Finally turned up, the threads were good so managed to get it back in, loctite on the the treads, all good now, torqued up. No oil ! Thanks Again
