Stovepipe/preheat pipe

  1. For a 1600 TP. This is the piece of tinware that sits under the main tinware and feeds warm air up to the air filter.

  2. ttt

  3. Is this the small trumpet/ funnel like piece? As I think I have one in a box somewhere? :)

  4. I reckon I've got one somewhere in the garage. Having a clear out before new year so if it turns up in the re-organisation of chaos I will let you know :)

  6. Any joy guys ?

  7. Haven't found it in amongst the sort out yet I'm afraid!

I know that a few of the local lads have had free rummages in my spares boxes so it may have gone walkies as it's not in the box I was expecting to spot it in...

  8. i have a 1600 TP but i dont have this pipe.. ? :/

do the engines/tinware differ from years?

  9. Yes, the tinware changes throughout the years on type 1 (upright) engines.

I haven't seen this piece fitted to many so must assume it gets lost or chucked out along the way.

If you open your engine bay and look at the right hand side nearest you, there should be 2 holes of the same diameter, one of which takes the hose from your fanshroud to heat exchanger.
The other hole is to take a pipe from the original oil-bath air filter out to the stove pipe beneath. The stove pipe is angled towards the cylinder heads to draw warm air up in to the air filter.

Obviously if you have twin carbs then you won't have this type of oil filter and therefore no need for this piece of tin. It's not essential, but it adds to the efficiency and longevity of a stock[-ish] aircooled lump.

For the OP: I have another box of bits up in the attic I will trawl through in the new year. Got my fingers crossed but after more tidying in the garage today I'm not overly hopefuly :(

  10. Ok no worries gvee, thanks anyway. I'll just wait to see if Moley comes up with anything by Wednesday, if not I'll buy new as they are not overly expensive.
