Sticky caliper new or repair.

  1. So I freed off my sticky nearside caliper piston last year when i fitted some pads but looking at the amount of brake dust on the wheel compared to the other side after a short run it’s still sticking.
What make replacement is best to go for & from where? Or what about overhauling it? Don’t want to send it away & be without the van as using it for a trip in a couple of weeks.
Could have a go at overhauling it myself, how many folk have managed it successfully?

I sent mine away to Bigg Red for refurbishing. Original calipers are likely to be better than the new Chinese cheese. Mine came back like new for about £160 for the pair.

  3. Get a seal and piston kit off big red ,very easy to strip down and rebuild . It's usually the pistons that are pitted with rust ,you get new ones in the kit ! About £50 to do both sides from memory .

DubCat and art b like this.
  4. What do we think to the piston bore of the caliper i have removed. Some rust/ pitting evident. Is it worth putting new pistons & seals in?

  5. Mine were like that , the new pistons slide on the new seals so all is well. Just clean the bore up with wet and dry paper .

  6. If I were in your position I'd send them off, that pitting would worry me and the last thing you want to be unsure of are your brakes
