Stereo set up

  1. Hi,

I'm sure this has been answered a few times, and obviously everyone has different opinions on how a stereo should/needs to sound, but I just want to make sure what I am thinking will work and would welcome any pointers from previous experience...

Headunit is a pretty lame JVC kd-g342 jobby (50W x 4) with Aux input and one pre-out.

In the front I am thinking of running a set of component speakers (woofers in the door cards and tweeters on the dash to bring the sound up from knee level). to start with, due to money, space for an amp in the front and ease of installation I am hoping to run these straight from the head unit, or do they need an amplifier?

    thinking something like this...

    http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-alpine-spg-13cs_p-23887.htm or http://www.raysmith.co.uk/rainbow-car-speakers-dl-c5-2-2-way-component-system-5-25-inch-woofer-120w.html

then in the back, taking a cable from the pre-out from the Head unit, install a 4 channel amp (thinking of only using one amp to save space as opposed to seprerate amp for sub and components) under the RnR bed. something like this...http://www.jlaudio.co.uk/xd400-4-car-audio-xd-amplifiers-98261

from the amp I'm then looking at having a 10" sub in the panel of the RnR bed, with another set of components with the woofers mounted in the RnR panel either side of the sub and the tweeters mounted at high level in over head locker at the back of the bus, maybe something with a bit more oomph like this... http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-alpine-spr-50c_p-27162.htm

I'm hoping this set up will give me some decent sounds while driving and also good sound when in the back parked up. I know it's never going to be the albert hall but would like some clarity and good even sound. I've used silent coat sound deadening through out the van to help with road noise reduction and to help the speakers out a bit, but any other additional pointers would be good too.

Does anyone else run a set up like this? any reccomendations on manufacturers to look out for or to avoid? don't want to install cheap Marmitee, but at the same time don't have a huge budget!

    any help much appreciated.

    Cheers

When you cut speakers into the door cards, make sure you protect them from the water that runs through the doors. There should be a membrane stuck to the door to stop the panels going soggy, make sure this encloses the speakers too.

    Sounds good to me.
