WANTED Steering wheel

Discussion in 'Late Bay Parts Classifieds' started by LewBLew, Apr 9, 2014.

  1. I'm after an original steering wheel for a '73. I'm afraid I don't know if this is the early or late type steering wheel but it looks like this:

Also, does anyone know the steering wheel nut size?

  2. Yep I have one ... ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397104417.871894.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397104434.725265.jpg £25 posted thanks mike. Do you mean the socket size to get the but off or on??

  3. Thanks, what's the condition like? Is it just dusty? Mine is cracked in many places and very sticky/shedding gloopy black stuff. Hence want to get rid.

Yes the socket size is what I meant!

  4. Yep very good condition just dusty will take better pic later think the socket is 22 or 24 will check

  5. Thanks, in that case I'll have it. Please PM me about the money.

I have 22 and 24mm sockets and these weren't big enough. I've read that the 60s beetle one was 27mm so going to measure it tonight. Are we sure your wheel will fit? I heard there are different size splines on the column and it changed in the early 70s

  6. It'll be 17 or 22mm across the shaft.
Early Late Bay 22mm late Late Bay 17mm I believe.

  7. Pm sent..

  8. I've measured and the hole of the nut (+ therefore the spline/shaft) is 17mm dia. The outside of the nut (+ therefore the socket required) is 27mm.

My steering wheel is part number 211415651D. There's also a 211415655B which is visually identical but is actually a later part and has different splines.

If I can't find one the same as mine I guess I'll have to paint it o_O
