Steering Wheel - which way round?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by sailorbill, Apr 6, 2013.

  1. I've had the steering wheel off all winter - firstly to repair and paint it but also as a security measure (tricky to steer without a steeering wheel).

Trouble is - I have forgotten which way round it goes. There is a small tang on the underside that protrudes in ordeer to make the self-cancelling indicators work.

Does it go in the right or the left as you are sitting in the cab?

    Hopefully someone knows.

    Thanks.

  2. Hello again Sailor Bill,

Just been out to have a look at mine. Mine is a RHD (not sure if it makes a difference) and the small tang to self cancel is on the right hand side as you look at it.

  3. Top job crumpets - mine is RHD too so now I'm sorted.

    Cheers

  4. I take my steering wheel off as well during winter, but then i never seem to get it square with the wheels first time i put it back on.

It most definately goes the same side as the indicator switch. I just went to some trouble swapping mine. That's the left. Sorry Crumpets, you're wrong on this one.

  6. I like to leave mine attached.
    Saves confusion. ;)

    Why? Anti theft?

  8. Yes left it is, otherwise it will only self cancel about once a month!

  9. Yes just for anti theft, the van is kept in a garage, i turn my wheels to full lock and take the steering wheel off so if the van is moved out it will get stuck against the wall.
its just the last attempt at keeping the bus as mine.
