Steering lock?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by baygeekster, Sep 1, 2011.

  1. I've been reading an article on the new MOT regulations that are due to come in next year. At present, part of the reason why the tester turns the steering lock-to-lock in the test is to ensure that the steering lock does not randomly engage during normal operating of the steering.

However, a new rule is coming in requiring the steering lock to be tested, by removing the ignition key and turning the wheel to check that the steering lock engages. This is for all vehicles where a steering lock is fitted to the vehicle as standard.

My question is - my '73 bus doesn't have a steering lock - were they standard equipment on 1973 T2's?

    Mine does and it's a '73.

  3. I have a 72 and a 74 - the 72 works the 74 doesn't. Don't get paranoid about the 'new for 2012' MOT regs - testers will apply common sense
    ;D

  4. all bays had steering locks it was only a option on splits. i would only worry about it if it fails on it, cant see why steering lock not engaging would be dangerous and a reason for rejection most testers wouldnt know what was standard equipment on a classis car tell them it wasnt standard on that year ;D

Lie. Tell them it didn't come with one.

  7. Don't believe what you read - the new MOT stuff they're talking about is all propaganda. Yes, there will be changes, but really only to try and get a common standard approach across Europe to ensure death traps are kept off the road. All the stuff you read on the ACE website is 99% bluster - other forums pick up on what gets said on there and the Chinese Whispers spread like wild fire
