As above. Oil is coming out of the seal that sits behind a circlip around the big splined shaft. Do I need to take the box out to replace the seal or can it be done in-situ. Is it desperate & could it be done at TE with a little help from my new friends? How do I get fresh oil into the box. Thanks all.....
Hmmmm? Leaking steering box and suddenly you've lots of 'new friends' not a difficult job...changed mine in a past life, but it wasn't fitted.....@Zed's done his recently....he'll be your friend
The hard bit is getting the arm of the splined shaft, they can be a right you know what, there should be a red plug where the oil goes, 284 ml. SAE90 gear oil And this is the seal you need http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320991367720?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
LOL. Well hopefully I'll make some new friends at TE regardless of the steering box. TBH I was hoping not to have to do too much at all apart from a quick service. Suspension & steering are kind of a bit important. Happy to dive in but not sure what to expect?
thanks @Keith.H , I saw your post the other day about putting a kit together. I couldn't see a fill plug from the brief grovel I had earlier. Must try harder.
from The Samba.com,,,not much to them...this 'Rebuilt Box' at considerable expense had a penny washer taking up the play....
i used a standard 3 legged bearing puller to get the arm off and was just about to say keith is ur man !! beat me to it
i had a card today buddy i said to the mrs that will keith i bet !! god bless u !! get it on the way to work in morning and give me somehthing to fiddle with the weekend while engines being built !!
get the seals and do it at techenders i may do mine there !! save a post and @zed or @vanorak or the many others that help me giving me a leasson !! (can see my bus ending up in bits on this weekend )
Just replaced mine last week, an easy job even for me, the old seal came out after a bit of pushing and pulling with a flat ended srew driver.
Ha, bet you have to pay a few pennies, i bunged them in a letter with a first class stamp, oops! Same must apply to @Silver , sorry
No sign yet. I thought you might send them up with banana boy. Postman seems do do flexi time round here
Fill it with landrover swivel grease It wont leak and it will work perfectly well Of course a strip and rebuild is always the best course of action
