not starting but is it firing?

  2. No, it turns over but doesn't catch or fire.

  3. One thing I do on my bikes is get one of those hand held propane torches (the ones with screw on gas canisters) and waft it into the intake (unlit) whilst cranking. It might give a cough (or even start).
Not had to try it on the camper yet though.

it goes back to my original post then, when mine does this it's always the plug into the twin relays, if you are sparking and fueling then it has to be something electrical on the fuel injection side telling the injectors not to work or something like that - although i'm a bit baffled that if you have fuel and spark and it is turning over that it won't start - i'm only working on common sense (DON'T SAY A WORD) but if you have fuel/spark/compression then it should run whatever? all I would do is pull and spray all connections on the relays and injectors etc and put the battery on charge to make sure you're getting a good voltage and have another go.

  5. Are your plug leads in the right order?

  6. Yup

  7. Its baffled me too, I'm definitely getting fuel to the plugs as I can see it when I take a plug out.

That's why it's off to the garage shortly. Leave it to the professionals.

  8. Right, its not gone into the garage as he is a bit too busy at the moment and as I need the van for Glastonbury I'm ploughing on with the diagnosis.

My current thinking is that its the battery. I 'thought' it was fully charged after a trickle charge recently and a voltmeter showing 12.89v but after only half a dozen key turns / tries to get it started its flat. So either it's not really charged and I'm getting a false reading or its not holding charge.

As I've got a FI system it needs 9.6v minimum to fire so it seems to make a bit of sense, (clutching at straws maybe). So, its on for a full trickle charge, currently been on for 4 hours, and its staying on until the charger says its done. Then I'll give it a try.

Next step to to try and jump it, before trying to blag a known working one from someone.

If its not that then its back to the drawing board and into the murky world of the FI system.

try it with jump leads on with another car running - i'm pretty sure it will be electrical as discussed earlier, the best thing to do is give it to me for £10 and i'll look after it for you. :)

  10. Yeah, that's the first job tomorrow. Problem is both my cars have closed engines so can't use them to jump start the van.

My brother has just turned up and his is ok, Outlaw has also said he might be able to pop round to try a jump as well.

It may well be electrical but as that is the only bit of the van that has been perfect since I got it I'd like to assume that it's gone wrong as a last resort. Otherwise that's the whole van replaced at one time or another!

they don't like sitting that's half the problem i noticed mine runs/starts a lot better the more i use it.

  12. An interesting thing I've just noticed, (maybe).

The charger has just clicked over to maintenance mode so according to it the battery is fully charged.

Tried to start it but still no joy.

However, I did notice that the headlights aren't working, hazard and indicators are fine but no headlight.

Does anyone with a wiring diagram or knowledge know if this is significant?

  13. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Headlights don't work without ignition on...

  14. Ah good, wasn't sure and don't have the wiring diagram to hand.

    Thanks.

  15. She lives! Outlaw popped round, have it a bit of a Green Flag jump start and she fired into life.

Bit of a misfire but after 15 minutes of running she sounded sweet.

30 minutes driving around the area, even sweeter!
