I'm having trouble with the starter relay that came with the new loom. It's 30A rated and has given up (again). Is this big enough for the job - not sure if my problem lies elsewhere (maybe dodgy solenoid pulling too many Amps) or just that the relay is too small.
This is a relay switching current to the starter solenoid, yes? If so, 30A is more than enough. I'd reckon the solenoid pulls 10A max. There isn't a relay for the starter motor itself (which would need to handle hundreds of amps). The switching's done by contacts inside the starter, closed by the solenoid.
Dead starter. Nothing if I bridge the main terminal to the solenoid supply and a nice shower of sparks but nothing else if I bridge the 2 main terminals. *****.
