Starter motors

  1. Got the same problem at the moment.

Ignition lights dim, fuel pump ticks, solenoid clicks, and nothing.

Few light taps on the side of the starter, but still nothing.

Roll on some daylight, and people not parallel parking so tight.

Also, noticed the lid of the webber air filter had dropped off. 4 months old and only fixed together with a little blob of glue. Crap, corner cutting manufacturing!

  2. Hi Mr Grey,

Battery voltage or bad earth most likely - can you try and jump it off another vehicle? Take off battery and clean contacts and then use some terminal grease or similar and try again :)

  3. Just to drag this topic back up:

My camper has been starting fine all through the winter, but over the last couple of weeks it's occasionally not turned over. About 3 times maybe. However the times that is hasn't turned over are inconsistent. Oh, I have a voltmeter under the dash and it shows just over 12V and I hear a click. There's a new ignition switch in there, and the battery is about 2 years old.

It's not started when it's been standing for a couple of weeks, but also when I've stopped for petrol after a hour-long motorway run. Each time I've boosted the main battery with a mobile jump start and it's started, but even so it's turned over sluggishly.

I guess I need to check the connections and the earth, but is it likely that my starter has got the "sticky" disease? And what can I do about it if it has?

    Ta

  4. Try cleaning the terminals and earth lead from battery and gearbox but it sounds like you may need a hot start relay or new cable from ignition switch rather than it being a starter problem.

    Good luck with it

    Ben
