    Hi!
hope someone can shed some light on this for me.... After starting my bus yesterday the starter motor stayed on and wouldn't disengage, the starter motor was turning even with the key out of the ignition...It eventually flattened the battery.
I presumed that it was the solenoid sticking so i gave it a clout to hopefully disengage.. it didn't, :( so i've charged up the battery and hooked it all up today, when the + terminal is hooked up the starter motor spins again so i guess i'm making the circuit there..
I have checked that all the wiring is ok and put a multimeter on the small wire on the solenoid and it read 0.09v.
Would the fault lie with the solenoid or somewhere else in the wiring? should i change the relay? could it be the ignition barrel electrics? the starter motor itself works... as its been proving all afternoon!!
Any help or advice would be cool, thanks loads in advance!!!:)

  2. Probably is the solenoid sticking. Take the starter off, strip the back off and give everything a good clean!

could be the solenoid or the teeth wearing on the starter or flywheel

try hitting the starter or turn the ing off, put in gear and let the clutch up

  4. They can sometimes stick just from one the mounting bolts not being torqued up properly.

righty, starter stripped cleaned etc, solenoid checked but looked pretty worn (as were the teeth on the starter motor) been trying to find a solenoid separately but this is proving to be harder than it should be! Finally found one but prices range from £25 to £60squid, complete unit with new solenoids are available from machine7 for £69 so a replacement unit is on the way.... hopefully this'll sort it!

  6. You can get the Starter solenoids from any local Auto electrical places - dont assume the usual VW places are the only way to go. Good luck with it anyway.

  7. I had my starter motor overhauled by my local Bosch electrical shop, where they fitted a brand new solenoid assy. for 15 pounds.
