Starter doesn’t fit

Hi,

my starter had been playing up so I purchased a new one, a long shaft one as that is what came out of the van. However, when I have tried to put the new one in the solenoid part touches the chassis above and so I can’t actually get it in. Am I missing something. It is a 73 van but it was definitely a long shaft starter that came out of it.

I sent the old one back for refurbishment, as it was on an exchange basis.

 

Stating the obvious, but you need to contact the supplier rather than asking/telling us about it, you've obviously been sent the wrong thing.
