WANTED Standard wheels

Discussion in 'Late Bay Parts Classifieds' started by Sean Warwick, Jan 11, 2021.

  1. Just looking for a set of standard 14in wheels, ideally with hubcaps and non-ancient tyres, but no problem if not :)

    Finish unimportant, circularity important.

I'm East Midlands based so in the short term unable to travel non locally

I have some, where are you based ?

  3. I have 2 sets of wheels. An old set that need painting that are on my van (with tyres) and a new set that have been powder coated that are in my garage, waiting for tyres. I haven't gotten around to swapping them, cos tyres are expensive. If I can sell the old set to cover tyres for the new ones, i would swap them out ;)

  4. Hi there.
I've just put alloys on Bob the Bus so will have a set of standard wheels/tyres/hubcaps for sale soon.
Can't get to van during lockdown either but if you have no luck locally feel free to get in touch. £200 the lot. I'm in York. Regards, Nick

    It’s 40 mm approximate total :p

  11. That seems like a lot. Are they for driving legally?

New tyres usually have around 8mm tread depth.:)

  14. Found a set of 4 locally on ebay with brand new tyres for £117.

  18. Turns out the set I bought aren't standard - they have 190/70 tyres on so think they're 7 inch rims. I was looking to go to standard profile to take weight out of the slow speed steering and restore some lost "tyre suspension". Should have checked more closely before getting them powdercoated!

So I now have two sets of wheels I don't want - fuchs porsche copy alloys (4 + spare) and freshly coated steelies with brand new 190/70s on (4 only)

If anyone still has a nice standard set of steel wheels with good tyres to swap or p/x with the above let me know.

Likewise if you want to buy either set let me know

You possibly mean 195/70 but why do you think the wheels aren’t standard? 195/70 will fit fine on standard 5.5-inch rims, just a bit smaller in diameter. Why don’t you fit 185 tyres to the rims you’ve just had powdercoated? Make sure the tyres have sufficient load rating of course.

Incidentally, wheel width is measured inside of rim where the tyre bead sits so a 5.5” steel wheel can be almost 6½“ wide on the outside, alloys are more.

  20. Thanks for tips.

I think I'm just going to see what the 195/70s feel like first. The rims are definitely comfortably wider than 5.5in; unfortunately I can't measure definitively with the tyres back on them. Any idea what the widest rim would be that you could fit a standard 185/80 to?

It just feels daft to me to make a standard van's already feeble top speed, thirsty fuel cons and heavy low speed steering any more feeble / thirstier / even heavier by fitting a tyre with a) a smaller diameter and b) larger contact patch. Though I fully respect the feelings of those whose tastes differ ;)
