Stainless exhaust for 77 type 4 with California flanges

  1. As it says! My empi for triangle flanges is getting pretty rough looking. I’d like some stainless ideally with clearance for an exhaust. Does this mean changing to Jtubes and uk style flange? That California flange seems difficult to please.

put a pic up ,lets have a better look at it

  3. I have myself a US fuel injected van which I have just rebuilt the engine, the US exhaust was beat up and heat exchangers rotted ad peppered with holes. I have opted to swap to European style heat exchangers so I can run a vintage speed stainless steel exhaust. If you have any questions let me know, to swap you'll need new heat exchangers and the heater riser pipe are different and so is one of the pipes which feeds the snail fan.

  4. Ah cool, mines a 2.0l type 4 but it’s on 40idf’s was fuel injected originally. Long gone now.

I’ll have a look at costs, hows that vintage speed sound? As good as it looks?

  5. it’ll cost you a fair few quid to go the route I have but my Heat exchangers were scrap so it was the beat route for me, if your heat exchangers are good you could go down the ceramic coating route for the silencer

  6. I have the same California spec triangle flanged exhaust. I’ve not seen any off the shelf stainless options for this setup unfortunately.

you could get one custom made maybe?

I have a pacesetter I bought from a US supplier. I got it ceramic coated to make it a bit more robust. Still looking good, been on several yrs now.
