Sponsorship request!! :) Half marathon fundraiser for MSA that my best friend died from

Dear TLB friends,

This Sunday my other half Sarah is running a half marathon to raise funds for the MSA charity. Our best friend Mel died from this debilitating disease at a much too young age.

It’s called Multiple System Atrophy and is a neuro degenerative illness that results in your autonomous nervous system failing and your movement going.

Unfortunately it is quite rare and difficult to diagnose and so it is often quite far into the illness that it’s diagnosed.

It was heart breaking to watch Mel go from a super lively on the go person to being unable to move or eat unaided.

Her sense of humour remained long after mine would have left me.

Sarah started running last year and this has been her motivation to continue and is her longest run.

@Dub and Dubber sorry to hear about your friend and ex. It took a long time to diagnose, at first they thought a bladder problem so Mel had an implant in her back to try and control it. Then a blood pressure problem as hers would go up and down. Then possibly Parkinson’s. it wasn’t until she saw a specialist in London that they diagnosed what it was. Not blaming the a Doctors as it is not a common illness, hopefully research will help.

We had some v scary moments with Mel during her illness as it could be erratic. The highlight was her fainting in Spain and breaking her nose and cutting what looked like her wrist but fortunately was the arm side. Oh how we laughed..... later!

Sarah here. I just wanted to say thank you so much to everyone who has supported me from the late bay forum, in my half marathon fundraising for the MSA Trust. Some of us haven’t even met. You are a very kind and super generous lot and all of your support is really appreciated and will help spur me on, on Sunday. And I take it back if I’ve ever called you Alex’s imaginary friends.

Late shout out to the TLB massive! Although it’s my partner not myself running this tomorrow I have also made “sacrifices’ as she hasn’t wanted to go to the pub hardly whilst she is in training. Also in her training races I have the stress of having to have spotted her in the crowd of runners at the beginning and end of the race and her heard me shouting. V stressful when you’re not v tall and have minimal concentration

 

Get her a bell!
