Split charge leccy issues

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by slammedresto, May 17, 2013.

  1. My leisure battery seems to go down really quickly when not being used, I found out my main starter batter was nackered, I've now replaced it with a brand new Bosch starter battery, should this solve this issue

I was thinking maybe the nackered starter battery was draining the leisure???? Any ideas. I've checked both batteries for drain, and there was nothing leeching off either

What type of split charger have you got

  3. A knackered starting battery will drain the LB when tthe circuit between them is open if you are using a standard relay that is 'opened' when the alternator is charging ie the van is driving along.

However, the intelligent self switching relays should prevent that from happening if it is working correctly.

    sorry differ
A self switching will keep trying to charge the main battery and never switching over to charge the leasure
A normal relay will only operate when the alternator charging and the alternator is fully able to charge the leisure and keep the engine battery going when running at 50amp output
