Speedo Cable on R/H Wheel

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Sydney, Apr 4, 2013.

  1. Does anyone know how easy it might be to install a standard speedo cable into the R/H front wheel?

I realise that the cable would be driving in the opposite direction, but is the wheel assembly the same as the L/H side?

Would I only need a cable, a grease cap (with a cable drive hole in it) and a circlip?

The cable would spin the wrong way - or is that what you want?

I happen to have a x-over spindle in the dining room. There does look to be a hole through the middle, though I didn't poke as it's greasy, and in the dining room.

Are you fitting a reversing speedo?

  6. Thanks. It doesn't matter that it will go backwards. I'll have a proper poke around the wheel hubs at the weekend.

David, did you manage to get that 1800cc engine up and running Ok?

  7. Hi Zed. My issue is that I have a Subaru speed sensor fitted to the back of the speedo and it's messing up the speedo ( the needle flicks around at low speed).
As the engine only needs to read pulses from the sensor to tell it that the vehicle is moving, I thought one option might be to drive the speed sensor from the other wheel and reconnect the speedo up as normal.
The other option of course is to get a new sensor.

    Thanks for the explanation. :)
