Spark Plug Woes

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Lydart, Jun 8, 2013.

  1. Decided to treat my Type 4 to new plugs and leads and all was going well until I tried to put the new plug in cylinder 2. No matter how hard I try that plug will not go in. The hole in the right cylinder cover does not line up with plug hole and I can't manage to align the plug so that it threads. I'm sure I can't be the only one that's had a problem with this plug.

Is there a trick to getting this plug in?

I use an Audi HT lead to start the threading in process on 2 and 4. The end holds the plug lovely.

But check your old spark plug hasn't come out with a helicoil on it. That may explain another reason why it's not biting. You'll see the thread on the old plug is much wider if it had.

  3. ^this - brilliant :). You may have unscrewed the helicoil with the plug. It won't go back in.

  4. Threads are the same size. Thanks Birdy I'll give the HT lead trick a try tomorrow.

  5. Lucky escape ;)...
