This is Victor in various states of undress, took spare off as quick as I could, looked sh*te & squeaked quite a lot Before After After some more After even more So take it off or don't put it on just carry a couple of cans of tyre weld. My spare now lives in the back garden!
Ive never used one on my bus. I carry tyre weld in all my vehicles, and only had to use that once in my Golf.
On the front out of the way and forming a perfect place to rest a coffee or a beer. @Dicky , didn't I take a load of pics of my carrier for you a while ago?
Thank you very muchIt's been great for us over the last 3 years, buying it was the best decision ever!
you did thanks and hopefully I can replicate something similar. I probably bang on about the same thing every year and don't get around to it!
Mine is inside hidden behind the drivers seat in its own cupboard as its a Berlin purpose built item. Also a great place to store a host of spares inside the wheel rim etc.
Tyre weld is fine if you just get a small puncture (and you can get it to work). No good for a blow out though. Do AA etc cover you if you don't have a spare?
That's actually my concern. I would put it where its supposed to go but theres the small issue of the bed being there! and anywhere else it will be in the way and potentially bouncing around in a bump!
Just checked. The AA specifically exclude "Failure to carry a serviceable spare. Any additional charges resulting from your failure to carry a legal and serviceable spare wheel or tyre, except where this is not provided as manufacturers standard equipment. The AA will endeavour to arrange on your behalf, but will not pay for, assistance from a third party."
Mine was on the roof but I thought that was a bit pointless. It's now in the spare wheel well but I take it out when we're camped somewhere and stick it underneath.
Mine's on the front too - bolt holes were already there from a PO covered by a plastic VW - so put it back , better than inside or not having one - I think I would worry too much not having a spare .
